The Finger Gazers

These days wherever I turn

I am reminded I am a Hindu

I protest

Hinduism tells me

I am Consciousness

One beyond all attributes

As does Quran when it says

“Wherever you turn,

There is the face of Allah”.

Go call yourself a Hindu or Indian

Or Muslim or Christian or British

I don’t care if you confuse

Names-and-forms with reality

And get all knotted up;

Keep thinking that the truth

Is to be found

In the words of the Gita or Quran

While they are mere pointers

Like a finger pointing to the moon.
