About the Writer
Dr. Wandana Sonalkar is an Mumbai based Economist , and an author and translator. She retired as Professor of women’s Studies at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai in 2017, and previously taught at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. She did her MA at Cambridge University UK and PhD at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad. Her research focuses on gender and caste in India. She has published translations of several books from Marathi to English, including the Dalit Women writer Urmila Pawar’s popular autobiography Aidan (Weave) as a The Weave of My Life: A Dalit Woman’s Memoirs and book on R.B. More, and in 2021 and she published Why I am Not a Hindu Woman, an autobiography critique of misogyny, caste and violence on Hindu religion as Maharashtrian CKP women (Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu).
