A Conversation with a Cousin on Whether We Exist

Do we exist or not?
Tell me, my friend.
A doubt has arisen in me.

But to whom does that doubt arise?
Is it to someone who exists, or to someone who doesn’t?
If one does not exist, how can doubt even arise?
So doubt itself is untrue—just an illusion, merely a thought.

If the mind does not think, there are no doubts.
You are not there, the world is not there,
God is not there, bondage is not there,
Worldly life is not there, liberation is not there.

When you think, all these turn into problems.
When you do not think, only Truth remains—
Brahman, pure consciousness—
That which always is, and always will be.
Then the ultimate truth is known.

The whole world is māyā, a grand illusion.

Doubt moves within the mind in the form of a thought.
So, doubt belongs to the mind.

The mind does not truly know.
But are you the mind?

No. If you reflect a little, you will understand—
There is a power, a consciousness,
That observes these doubts arising in the mind.

But who recognized that there is doubt in the mind?
It is you, isn’t it?

Therefore, you yourself are that power, that consciousness.
