I have started visiting a Gurudwara that is within a stone’s-throw-distance from the flat where I am staying here in East Patel Nagar, Delhi. And yesterday afternoon I visited the more distant Gurudwara, the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara near Connaught Place, which is a huge complex.
For some strange reason, I find that the meditation proceeds so very easily and deeply here in the nearby Gurudwara, where I have started spending a couple of hours meditating, as is the case when I meditate in the Ramakrishna Temple in Ramakrishna Math in my hometown of Hyderabad, than is the case when I try to meditate at home.
At the Bangla Sahib yesterday I saw so many people streaming in and out, and I started wondering how each of us is here on earth lost in our own dreams, hopes, and ambitions of various sorts, but why? What is each of us seeking? And why are the vast majority of us failing so grandly, though some may give the explanation of karma and whatnot. Because in the final analysis, what is there to be achieved or propped up? Even if something is “achieved” will it not be extinguished, if not with our own life, at least when the “big crunch” (the scientific equivalent of pralaya) happens sometime in the future, however distant that future might be. Makes no sense, and yet we have a life to live meanwhile…no escaping from that.
