What is Diwali?

A family member SMSed me a little while ago thus. Since she did not reply back to my question, read my own answer to my question below this screenshot:

Of course, I do know what Diwali is.

A festival celebrated by Hindus with lights to sumbolize the triumph of good over evil.

Now, that raises these interesting questions:

Has the evil been overcome forever?

It may have been overcome temporarily in some period, and we are recalling those so-called good days, but is there no evil right now amidst us, maybe within ourselves, that we somehow are unable to decimate forever?

Can there be ONLY good WITHOUT ANY evil ever at any time in this world?

If no, what is this celebration all about then?

Moreover, what is that light by which we are “knowing” something is good and something is evil?

Does that “light” ever get extinguished?

What is the relationship between that “light” and this “good and evil” in this world?

What is OUR RELATIONSHIP to that “light” and to this “good and evil” in this world?
