How shall I explain to the people I love
And I love a great many people
Family, friends, relatives and strangers
That this life can seem fun together
But as life goes, it is so sometimes
But when the sun is hidden by the clouds
We wonder whether that forebodes an end
Or if sometimes that is just a renewal
This see-saw that life is, some enjoy
But after three scores and some on earth
The mystery begs to be unravelled
Unravelled in this very lifetime
As mysteries go, we side with our mind
Devouring the books on library shelves
Or conversing with the wise that there be
Yet at the end of it we are no wiser
Though in the eyes of the world we are
Then a surrender happens, a sweet defeat
Whose acknowledgment we postpone
Much to our own ill, yet in that acceptance
In the acceptance of the defeat of our mind
The mind that seeks knowledge and wisdom
And the defeat of the heart that seeks love
We little realize how surely awaits at the other end
Of this seemingly awful defeat and silence
A victory that shows up a light in our lives
That no cloud can ever hide, no never hides.
