Strictly speaking, we don’t lay down the ego, thoughts and desires in deep sleep. It just happens, without any effort on our part. So if they lay down without any effort on our part when we are conscious, we would realize the Self. There is nothing to do.

The “quickfix solution” is to do nothing, that is, “Be Still”, giving up even the anxiety about how much time it is going to take to realize the Self.
