We all know
Only too well
How things can go wrong
A fetus being stillborn
A 25-year-old
Dying of a rare cancer
A 60-year-old
Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s
An 80-year-old
With hip fracture
A 20-year-old
Becoming heartbroken
A 40-year-old dad
Dying in a car accident
A summa-cum-laude
Not admitted at Harvard
I think you get the picture
We know
How things can go wrong
Yet we cling to hope
Burying our head in sand
Like an ostrich.
