Stereotyping of People

From time to time I get stereotyped because people say things like what I spoke or was thinking was like a “Reddy”, whatever the stereotype they have about Reddys as to how they talk or think.

I guess all of us are guilty of stereotyping others according to their looks, gender, caste, religion, race, and what have you. That is the lazy person’s way out to figure out someone because it takes a lot of investment of time, interest and energy to find out the real person behind the stereotypes that we fall prey to because it is easier to think that way that we understand someone.

The reason we resort to stereotypes is that we are uncomfortable dealing with people we think we do not understand fully. Nor do we have the patience, time, motive, and interest, to understand others in a fine-grained manner.

That is why it is perhaps true that “Sam ko samajhna mushkil hi nahi, naa mumkin hai”, though I would like to think that statement is true even if someone is not stereotyping me.
