You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?

Kabir Bhajan – Chalna Hai Dur Musafir

(the Youtube link to the song at the end)

You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?
You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?
Why do you still sleep… O traveler, why do you still sleep?

The mindful and the mindless alike are lost in thought,
But do not sleep too deep in slumber.
Caught in the nets of lust, anger, pride, and greed,
Why waste this precious life?
You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?

Upon your head you carry the bundle of worldly ties,
And your messengers (of fate) walk beside you.
If midway that bundle is snatched away,
Why will you then sit crying with your head in your hands?
You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?

The path ahead is long and difficult,
Walk on now, for you must go alone.
No one will accompany you on that road,
Whose path will you keep searching for?
You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?

The river is deep, your boat is old,
How will you ever reach the other shore?
Says Kabir: Listen, O seekers,
Do not lose the capital while paying the interest.
You must travel far, O traveler, why do you still sleep?
