And why does such a need exist in us for someone to keep us in their thoughts and prayers?
That is how God has made this world, so that in our need to want things from others and depend on others for our needs, our egos will lessen and our capacity for loving will widen and deepen, or else if we were totally self-sufficient, say a Robinson Crusoe, then we would have been “islands unto ourselves”.
Moreover, most great enterprises cannot be accomplished alone. “Standing on the shoulders of giants”, as Newton said.
This humility to recognise the “others” and their importance in our lives makes life that much more meaningful.
And, this understanding also aids us in moving closer to truth, such as there might be.
