Four Poems

Half-Hearted Living

Time rolls on, unmindfully,
While I engage with my dilemmas
On what I should do
Or not do, in this world,
A world which seems an illusion
Where I can only take half-interest
In all things whatsoever
Be it a relationship or stand-up comedy
Be it a movie or a song
Be it friendship or literature
Be it even philosophy or Lao-Tzu,
I who have begun to realize
I gain nothing much by living
Except this constant headache
On how to spend the day
When I cannot take
My own pleasures and delights
All that seriously,
To keep quiet
Would be the thing to do
But I do not seem to be in control
Of how my life evolves.

Alzheimer's, but not of the Saiyaara kind

Oh my
How we suffer
Having forgotten
What we once were;
Searching, searching
Not knowing
What we have forgotten
Hoping to embrace it
In love;
Hoping to buy
The map to it;
Hoping to summon it
With power;
Hoping to lure it
With our fame;
But we cannot -
Try as we may.
When exhausted
And fall asleep
We may awaken
From this dream
Of forgetfulness.

What's Your Mojo?

Buddha found his truth
Jesus found his love
It's time
You and I
Found ours.

"If you are seeking liberation, my son, avoid the objects of the senses like poison and cultivate tolerance, sincerity, compassion, contentment, and truthfulness as the antidote."--Ashtavakra Gita (1.2)

How foolish is Ashtavakra
He gives a commandment
No doubt an "if...then" commandment
Haven't we had enough of commandments
Why these "grown-ups" treat us like kids
Kid I may be, but if I am
Then why tell me not to do something
What is more tempting than something forbidden
So, forbid not, and let me know the truth
And the truth shall set me free
As well knew that great man of Athens
Who said, "Knowledge is virtue" -
It suffices to "know" a snake is poisonous
No one need tell me thereafter
To avoid the snake.
