Four Poems

The Utter Indifference

Somebody brought me here.

Somebody brought me here

On this earth.

Somebody brought me here

On this earth

With what purpose?

Somebody brought me here

On this earth

With what purpose

S/He never told me.

Somebody brought me here

On this earth

With what purpose

S/He never told me

And that pisses me off.

Somebody brought me here

On this earth

With what purpose

S/He never told me

And that pisses me off.

But the Universe does not care.

The Sun keeps rising and setting.

Who Loves and Who Cares

There is much that detains me

Here on earth, like care and love

With which the heart binds me

To a few here on this earth.

Yet it is not I that cares for them

Their own goodness rescues them

From much that can go wrong;

It is also not given to me to love

Reason is ever the foe of love

And reasonable as hell I am.

God’s Laughter

Sick to the core

I am of life;

Nothing, nothing at all

Detains my interest;

Everything is so banal

And of little consequence.

All I hear these days

Is God’s laughter

At how stupid

We humans are.

It’s that Time

It’s that time of the year

When you have to peep out

And pass on season’s greetings

Even if on other days

You keep to yourself.

Time to greet

Friends and foes alike

With a munificent spirit.

Time to search

For long lost friends

On Facebook and LinkedIn

And make contact with glee.

Time to express gratitude

To whom gratitude is due.

Time to celebrate

The achievements

Of our fellow men

In the year past

And to be beholden

To the Almighty

By whose light and love

We live and thrive.

Time to reflect

And see how the past

Could have been better

And resolve anew

To progress

Toward our better selves In the new year.
