Capitalism, Kant, and Nisargadatta Maharaj

The capitalist system cares ONLY for productivity and profits, and in so much as it cares for Employees’ welfare, cares for it only so that productivity and profits go up, so the employees are always used ONLY or MOSTLY as a means by the capitalists and never are seen much as an end in themselves, which Kant said should not be done in his 2nd Categorical Imperative of his Deontology Ethics, which Harvard professor of philosophy Michael Sandel talks about as a counter to Utilitarianism of Bentham and Mill, I think in the 3rd Video of his Justice course available on YouTube.

“Whenever love is withheld and suffering allowed to spread, war becomes inevitable. Our indifference to our neighbour’s sorrow brings suffering to our door. … Of course facts are real! I live among them. But you live with fancies, not with facts. Facts never clash, while your life and world are full of contradictions. Contradiction is the mark of the false; the real never contradicts itself. For instance, you complain that people are abjectly poor. Yet you do not share your riches with them. You mind the war next door, but you hardly give it a thought when it is in some far off country. The shifting fortunes of your ego determine your values; ‘I think’, ‘I want’, ‘I must’ are made into absolutes.”–Nisargadatta Maharaj, I Am That
