My Friend’s Legitimate Concern

In response to my reply to his email (see https://selfrealization.blog/2026/07/10/the-unbearable-anxiety-of-being-just-an-ordinary-human/), my friend wrote:

I see (“…discover our true nature as Consciousness..”).  Humans at large don’t seem to have the innate ability to discover this.. so how does society get closer to this state of mind? or is such discovery meant to be the privilege of only a select few in society?

I replied thus:

Ah…interesting question. How do the masses cope?

I think every society creates opportunities for its inhabitants to get some modicum or more of happiness and fulfillment, but along the way some mass of people do try to get “more and more” and thereby fall prey to some ailments or the other, which is why we see that in modern society, mental illnesses are on the rise maybe precisely because of the problems pointed out in the article shared by you.

So, yes, every historical epoch will have its own unique problems in addition to the usual constant ones, but you forget, as I had written earlier, “One man’s problem is another man’s opportunity”, so for every mentally ill patient there is a psychiatriast flourishing and some psychologist coming up with some new theories of why mental illnesses ocuur, etc., and thereby making a name for himself/herself and also contributing to the body of knowledge.

This juggernaut of the world cannot be stopped, and its momentum and where it is headed only God knows. What all we can do as individuals is to apply the knowledge and understanding we have to escape the ravages of our times, but the societies as a whole get caught up inextricably in this march of time, or is it as Hegel put it, “History is the march of God upon earth”?

But, know that God is in charge, and s/he knows what s/he is up to and whatever changes have to be wrought about so that all karmic accounts are squared up are already underway even as I write this, and such changes could also be the article you shared, because ultimately God does not change this world magically but through each and every one of us, making us believe that we are the agents of action and change, while s/he does everything. So, let us give up the anxiety of being the “doers” and let God do what s/he wants to do through us or others. Relax, have a Charminar! Listen to this song in that regard:
